Comments about the web site: Former: Sgt E5, Squad Leader 106MM R.R. Served: 1961-1964, Ft. Riley, Kansas. Units: Co A, 2nd Bn, 12th Inf. Regt. - 1961-1963 Co E, 1st Bn, 16th Inf. Regt. 1963-1964. Both these units were part of the 1st Infantry Division "THE BIG RED ONE". During this..Cold War Era..period. Would greatly appreciate any information about, or responses from former members of, either of these units. The 2/12th was disbanded at Ft. Riley, shortly after I left. The 1/16th went to Vietnam after I was discharged in 1964. Fellow members of that outfit would have been there 1965, 66, possibly 67. moy3rd@hotmail.com

Comments about the web site: Bravo 1-11 Jan 70- Dec 70. I had noticed Barney Hyatt's name several times on different sites. I worked with a Barney Hyatt for years and wondered if it was just a coincedence. After visiting this site today, I am convinced that Barney Hyatt from Lansing Michigan is one and the same! Though I knew Barney at work for many years, we had never discussed Vietnam so the connection was never made. Now that we are both retired and I no longer know of his whereabouts, I find we were both in the 5th Div in Quang Tri. Small world isn't it? What conversations we could have had if we had known this before.

Comments about the web site: I was surfing and just wondered about the old unit. I served in Co D Support Plt. and drove a 548 to refuel the tracks. Not much has been written about our unit but I know we were there. Now at 55 I can say the experience was an experience in Trust Lost. We should have never stopped at the DMZ, but since we did we did need to get out of country. I think the leaders of the Army today have learned from us. Go in stong, get the job done and get out.

Comments about the web site: I trained at B Co 1/61 at Ft. Jackson from 2/01 - 6/01. We were formed up for the dedication of the memorial to 1/61(I believe) around the end of our BCT. Anyways I always read William Starr's vigniette when I walked into the Bravo classroom. I thought about those that followed before me a lot when I was going through basic there. I'm proud of those who have served and this is a great site for the 1/61 Roadrunners "The Best Lead The Rest" (We sound off with your motto whenever someone from Bn HQ is going by).

Comments about the web site: Hi, I am the webmaster for the 3rd/5th Armored Cavalry Black Knights. I have enjoyed looking through your website! There is a LOT of useful info here.
I am very interested in a page you show about Lam Son 719. In that text is a list of casualties. It shows that there were 21 3-5 Cav KIAs, 131 WIAs and 2 MIAs. I would like very much to get my hands on the COAAR or any report that shows this information in more detail.
Please contact me!
Welcome Home, peace to all, Doug

Comments about the web site: Clearly, the tank history page here:
http://members.aol.com/bn61st/tkhist.htm
is the best short history to be found on the internet! I look forward to learning more tactical insights from the combat vets here so we can have a fire and maneuver capability in our Army today. We are in deep trouble today being led by some fools who have forgotten the value of mounted x-country maneuver who think "mouse-clicked firepower" is a path to success when its only road to an ambush.
Airborne!

Comments about the web site: As a member of Bravo Company mortar platoon Oct 69 to Oct 70 I can attest to it that Col. Swaren was the best battalion commander in Viet Nam. As I talk to other vets, I realize that we had someone who treated his troops as equal, who would risk his life for them, not circling 5000 feet over a battle. Sir, your web site is fantastic and it was a "Honor" to serve under you. God Bless.

Comments about the web site: Let there be no misconceptions, this is the best military web site in existance. This is just a reflection of the commander who is the webmaster. I have know him but just a short time in the adventure of life but I will tell the reader this, I would follow him to hell and back. Colonel "Jack" John Swaren is an icon to those who have had the pleasure of his presence; none better. I am honored to be one of his pen pals and equally happy to be his subordinate. God bless 'D boys'.

About noon on May 21, 1971 some of my buddies left on the chow truck to return to the States...their year tour of duty was over. I would have gone with them but I had extended my tour. Later that same afternoon I was one of the lucky 33 who was in the club bunker and only WIA. Sgt. Boyle & I ran from the mess hall to the club bunker and were buried after the 122mm rocket hit. I don't remember much but someone helped me out to the helo-pad where we were transported to the 18th SGH in Quang Tri. It has been over 30 years but I would like to thank whoever helped us that day.
